Diary of an Isolate
Day 13
Food for Thought ( & Quarantine)
I entered quarantine, determined to eat only a certain kind of food. It appeared to be a difficult task, at first. After all most of us take refuge in food — to deal with inactivity, boredom and isolation. Yet, I persisted with my resolve.
The restricted diet has done wonders to my digestive system beside helping me shed 3kg of stubborn fat at a ripe age of 54. I have tried other diets, I must admit, in the past but gave in to circumstances and social pressures too fast and too easily. They were, at best, half hearted attempts I conclude.
The contribution of extensive stretching and Yoga exercises twice a day should not be ignored too.
My daily meals consisted of
a) Fruits for Breakfast
b) Salad for Lunch
c) Roasted vegetables / beans for Dinner
d) Lemon Tea with Honey
e) Black Coffee
This is what I completely eliminated
a) Rice/Bread
b) Fizzy drinks — Coke etc
c) Alcohol including Beer and Wine
d) Juices and shakes
e) Sweets/Cakes — except two pieces over the entire duration.
f) Milk and dairy.
There were no cheat days and I have not eaten a single hot meal for the last two weeks.
Food remains a major concern for individuals contemplating, compulsory quarantine. Other than entertainment — TV, Internet etc, eating could occupy a significant part of the day for people scared of boredom…and therefore it’s importance. The truth is refraining from rich food could be more comforting to the body and mind. It is also a lifetime opportunity to detox; for those who suffer from obesity or other ailments of the body.
There was some respite from heat in the afternoon today. It rained in short spells and I stepped out a few times to experience the good weather.
One day remains though.
